MTI and SURFACE SPECIALTIES LAUNCH
UV GLASS LAMINATING LINE

The Uvekol glass laminating system uses UV technology to provide a fast and consistent process and allows start-up with a minimal investment. Today, Uvekol products from Surface Specialties UCB are being used around the world to produce laminated glass that delivers safety, security, acoustic, and design benefits.

MTI has developed a production line for UV glass lamination, which includes a programmed conveyor station and a dual UV light curing system. The line is capable of producing over 1000 ft2 laminated glass per day, with one 8 hour shift, since Uvekol products typically only take 20 minutes to cure under UV lights.

Uvekol S is a one component liquid cured by low intensity UV lights and is certified as an interlayer for hurricane resistant glass by Miami-Dade County , Florida . It has successfully passed impact and cycling tests in a variety of framing systems.

Now, window and door manufacturers have two options: purchase laminated glass from an existing Uvekol glass fabricator or integrate a Uvekol glass laminating line into their own operation. Both will offer the benefits of reduced lead times at a competitive cost, with a product providing superior clarity and excellent impact and cycling performance, as required for hurricane resistant systems.

The first MTI system has been installed at A.L. Smith Glass Company, a prominent glass supplier located in Ijamsville , Maryland , producing laminated glass for the North East market. Expanding building codes requiring hurricane resistant fenestration systems along the East coast mandated this investment. According to Mr. Alton Smith, the company's president, "An extensive evaluation of the laminated glass market, laminating materials, and equipment suppliers was conducted.  Smith concluded, "Uvekol liquid laminate processed on MTI's turnkey system was, by far, the best performing and most economical system available."  Due to the success of this line, additional MTI/Uvekol lines are currently on order, with more pending.
